#MfEMonday – 16th May 2022

We had a great weekend at VOCALS on Saturday and Sunday. Over 80 children from across the East Midlands came to NTU in Clifton for a weekend of singing songs about the jungle (Yanamamo), saving the planet (with help from the Bumblesnouts!) and the Disney film Moana.

Here are a few photos from the busy weekend, Vocals 1 even found time to make Bumblesnout masks!

The Vocals children will be meeting again this coming Saturday, 21st May, to perform a concert in the Albert Hall, more details here: https://www.music-for-everyone.org/event/vocals-concert/

Has anyone else caught Eurovision fever this weekend? From costumes to staging, it’s always entertaining. The UK were victorious after the jury vote, before finishing in 2nd place behind Ukraine’s entry, which proved popular with the public, in the final result.

This is the highest the UK have placed since a win in 1997! The entry this year, ‘Space Man’ by TikTok and social media star Sam Ryder, also won the Marcel Bezencon Press Award, a first for the UK in Eurovision history. You can hear the UK entry here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udsMTb2NIak

Interesting fact about Eurovision… do you recognise the theme tune when Eurovision opens each year? The Prelude to Charpentier’s ‘Te Deum’, composed in the late 1600s, has opened Eurovision for over 60 years, since it’s beginning in 1956. Here is the Prelude in full: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iwU37osOkQA

Have a good week!
