Youth Windband Weekend
27/28 February & 6 March 2016

Come to Bandwise! 2016, Music for Everyone’s 15th youth Windband event.

Bandwise! gives young people the opportunity to play a wide variety of music for wind and percussion – from classics to pop and jazz – and to take part in instrumental groups and workshops, all in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

Where is it and When?

The next Bandwise! course will take place at Emmanuel School, Gresham Park Road, West Bridgford NG2 7YF on Saturday 27 & Sunday 28 February followed by an informal concert for parents and friends at the Albert Hall, Nottingham on Sunday 6 March.

Who will be there?

Lots of wind and percussion players from all parts of Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire and Lincolnshire. All instruments are included: flutes, oboes, clarinets, bassoons, saxes, horns, trumpets, cornets, trombones, euphoniums, tubas, and percussion.

The age range is 8 – 21. The artistic director is Gill Henshaw, Music for Everyone’s principal wind animateur. She will be assisted in conducting and leading workshops by a team of specialists. There will also be a large support group of adult organisers and helpers.

How good do I have to be?

Whether you have been playing for years or have only just reached grade 1, this is for you! Players are divided into three bands…

Bandwise 1 (Associated Board grades 1-2)
Bandwise 2 (Associated Board grades 3-4)
Bandwise 3 (Associated Board grades 5+)

NB Percussion players should be able to read music and play the appropriate grade.

What are we playing?

A wide range programme including:

Bandwise 1: Fanfare for Freedom Michael Story
Bandwise 2: John Williams: Movie Adventures arr. Sweeney
Bandwise 3: Pirates of the Caribbean arr. Ricketts

There will also be a range of fringe activities, including flute, clarinet and brass ensembles and a jazz band etc. At the informal concert on Sunday 6 March all groups will give a performance of items rehearsed at the weekend course.

How do we learn the music?

By practising the parts and listening to a rehearsal CD which will be sent to you along with copies of the music about four weeks before the course. The CD takes you through the music and the rehearsals at the course carry on from where the CD leaves off. If you have ‘done your homework’ then you’ll have no problems!

How much does it cost?

Bandwise 1 – £25.50
Bandwise 2 – £26.50
Bandwise 3 – £27.50

We are offering a 10% discount to all families who have two or more children taking part in the course.

NB. Numbers in each band are limited so please apply as soon as possible.

Details of how to book for the concert will be included in your music pack.
