The MfE Trustees wish to place on record their special thanks to the following people who have made exceptional contributions to the organisation in outstanding ways. They have acted to shape MfE formatively, helping to make it the charity it is today, or have sustained it invaluably through remarkably long-term commitment and service.
Criteria for inclusion
Each individual has met at least 2 of the following criteria:
- demonstrated dedicated, sustained and substantial commitment to MfE in a voluntary capacity for at least 15 years, or as an employee for at least 20 years
- gone above and beyond their role as a volunteer or employee
- had a formative influence on MfE, making a positive impact on its development
- acted as an ambassador successfully promoting MfE and its values for at least 15 years
Angela Kay MBE
Founder, leader and developer of the Nottingham Choral Trust (subsequently re-named Music for Everyone), Artistic Director and Principal Conductor 1983-2023, recipient of Making Music’s Lady Hilary Groves Prize for her nationally outstanding contribution to music making in the community.
Jen Adams
Dedicated custodian and cataloguer of the MfE Music Library 2006 – 2022
Isobel Bounford
Formative role in the development and administration of instrumental work for both youth (Stringwise and Youth String Orchestra) and adult (Blow the Dust) players; also in the formation and ongoing administration of MfE’s semi-professional orchestras (New Classical Players and Nottingham Concert Orchestra) 1993 – 2019
Andy Cooper
Continuous volunteering at MfE events for over 30 years, notably the Festival Chorus, chamber choir and youth windband activities; long-serving MfE Chair of Trustees 1992 – 2005; official MfE photographer
Kathleen Jackson
Formative role in the early development of adult choral work (Nottingham Festival Chorus and East of England Singers) and ongoing support 1983 – 2018
Andrew James MBE
Transformative Chair of MfE Trustees 2006 – 2017; overseeing re-branding of Nottingham Choral Trust as Music for Everyone and the adoption of a new constitution and legal status (Charitable Incorporated Organisation); founder of Bookwise (Chairman 2007 – 2024), creating it as a sustainable independent income stream for MfE and setting up MfE office premises
Joyce Lingard
Continuous volunteering for the charity in various roles 1990 – 2021, including long service as youth choir box office administrator and secretary of MfE Friends’ Scheme
Kerry Lovell
Formative role in the development and administration of wind band instrumental work (Bandwise and Adult Flute Choir) 1996 – 2021
Angela Smallwood
Trustee and honorary secretary to the Board 1985-2024, providing exceptional sustained support for the organisation as a whole; formative role in the expansion of the programme from adult choral work to include youth vocal courses and concerts
Mary Stokes
Exceptional volunteering; dedicated administrative support in the MfE office and across a wide range of adult and youth events, notably Wollaton Daytime Voices and Beeston Open Voices
Janice Weston-Smith
Exceptional, sustained volunteering for over 30 years, developing the Gift Shop to raise funds and running the stall at all courses, youth and adult, choral and instrumental; ever-resourceful leader of catering arrangements for courses, concerts and celebrations; MfE’s expert first-aider
Nominations for Roll of Honour
Nominations for the Roll of Honour can be received from members, trustees, staff or volunteers at any time. Nominations should be made to the trustees, who would assess them at a trustees meeting, against the above criteria.
