Blow the Dust! Orchestral Playing Day
6th January @ 10:00 am - 6:00 pm
Did you learn to play an instrument when you were at school but haven’t got it out of the case for a long time? Or have you taken up playing an instrument in adult life just for fun? Do you like playing orchestral music? Were you a member of the school recorder group?
If the answer is YES to any of these questions then come to Blow the Dust off your Instrument 2018.
This playing day will give you the chance to renew your old skills or put new-found ones into practice in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. The conductor will be Angela Kay, the Artistic Director of Music for Everyone who blends expertise and enthusiasm with a great sense of humour!
The music has been chosen to give scope to players of all abilities and will include well known movements from Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake, Bizet’s rousing ‘Toreador Song’ from his opera Carmen, and to get your foot tapping, Curtain Up – a wonderful arrangement of great tunes from West End shows.
There will also be items for wind band (conductor Gill Henshaw) and string orchestra (conductor Ann-Marie Shaw). The recorder ensemble will also have a varied diet of music carefully chosen by their conductor, Chris McDouall.
The instrumental parts will be sent out in advance of the course, to give you time to get to grips with the notes ahead of the day itself.
Please note: This course is not suitable for players of a standard below Associated Board Grade 2 (except recorders)
Online enrolment is now closed for this course. Please contact the office if you would like to be on the mailing list for future events.

Would you be willing to give up a little bit of time to help with the smooth running of the course? We particularly need help with registration and also a team of people to help with refreshments during the breaks. You may have a friend/partner who would be willing to help prepare and serve these – no great skill required! If you or a friend/partner would be willing to lend a hand then please indicate when you enrol – thank you!
