Blow the Dust! Orchestral Playing Day
10th June @ 10:00 am - 6:00 pm
Did you learn to play an instrument when you were at school but haven’t got it out of the case for a long time? Or have you taken up playing an instrument in adult life just for fun? Do you like playing orchestral music? Were you a member of the school recorder group?
If the answer is YES to any of these questions then come to Blow the Dust off your Instrument, 10 June 2017.
This Orchestral Playing Day will give you the chance to renew your old skills or put new-found ones into practice in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.
The music has been chosen to give scope to players of all abilities and will include Henry Mancini’s lyrical Moon River from ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’, Edward German’s well known Nell Gwynne Suite and Moszkowski’s atmospheric Spanish Dance.
There will also be items for wind band (conductor Gill Henshaw) and string orchestra (conductor Ann-Marie Shaw). The recorder ensemble will also have a varied diet of music carefully chosen by their conductor, Chris McDouall.
The instrumental parts will be sent out in advance of the course, to give you time to get to grips with the notes ahead of the day itself.
Please note: This course is not suitable for players of a standard below Associated Board Grade 2 (except recorders)
Do you ache whilst playing your instrument? Are you stiff at the end of a rehearsal? Perhaps the Alexander Technique might help you. This technique is designed to change long-standing postural habits which may be causing tension, stiffness, aches and pains which in turn prevent you from achieving your full potential. Fully qualified AT practitioner, Maggie Bishop B Ed, M.Sc, MSTAT will introduce you to the technique and be around during the lunch break to answer your questions.
Online booking is now closed. If you would like to be on the mailing list for future events, please email firstname.lastname@example.org

We particularly need help with registration and also a team of people to help with refreshments during the breaks. You may have a friend/partner who would be willing to help prepare and serve these – no great skill required! If you or a friend/partner would be willing to lend a hand then please indicate when you enrol – thank you!
