SUMMARY:Stringwise! 2019
DESCRIPTION:Come to Stringwise! 2019\, Music for Everyone’s 27th annual youth string weekend course and concert. Stringwise! gives you the chance to play a wide variety of music for strings and to take part in a range of orchestral groups and workshops\, all in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. This year we present a programme of DANCE! Guaranteed to get you moving!. \nThe Stringwise groups will perform a toe-tapping mix of music\, concluding with a grand finale piece incorporating all players\, Simple Gifts arranged especially for Stringwise! \nWhere and when is it? \nStringwise! will be held at Bluecoat Academy\, Wollaton NG8 1EA over the weekend of 2 & 3 November 2019 followed by an informal concert for parents and friends at the Albert Hall\, Nottingham\, on Sunday 10 November. An outline of the schedule for all groups is given below. \n\nWho will be there? \nLots of string players from Nottinghamshire\, Derbyshire\, Lincolnshire and Leicestershire: violinists\, viola players\, cellists and double bass players. The age range is 7 – 18. The orchestras and workshops will be led by a team of experienced string teachers and there will also be a large support group of adult helpers and organisers. \n\nHow good do I have to be? \nWhether you have been playing for years or have only recently started having lessons on a stringed instrument\, this is for YOU! Players will be divided into four groups: Stringwise 1 (beginners – open strings and first fingers)\, Stringwise 2 (Grade 1)\, Stringwise 3 (grades 2 – 3) and Stringwise 4 (Grades 4 – 6). \nMfE also runs two string orchestras which meet once every three weeks on a Sunday afternoon at NTU Clifton\, NOTTINGHAM STRICTLY STRINGS for players of Grade 2 – 4 standard and the EAST MIDLANDS YOUTH STRING ORCHESTRA for players of Grade 5 and above. If you would like further information about these groups then just fill in the appropriate section on the Application form. \n\nWhat are we playing? \nAn entertaining program including: \nStringwise 4:\nBollywood Strings Julie Liebermann\nDrowsy Maggie Traditional \nStringwise 3:\n‘A Conversation’ Mary Poppins Returns Marc Shaiman\nDance of the Reed Pipes Tchaikovsky \nStringwise 2:\nHasapikos Greek Traditional\nLittle Tango David Burndrett \nStringwise 1:\nSpanish Dance Pat Legg\nOpen String Samba Peter Wilson \n\nHow do we learn the music? \nBy practicing the music which will be sent to you approximately four weeks before the course\, and listening to the rehearsal tracks which you can choose to download as MP3’s from an email link or receive on a CD. These tracks can take you through the music and the rehearsals at the course carry on from where they leave off. If you have “Done your homework” you’ll have no problems! \n\nHow do I apply? \nNumbers in each orchestra are limited so please apply as soon as possible. It provides progression pathways\, culminating in specialist ensembles for both singers and instrumentalists. \nThe role of Assistant Artistic Director is an important new role at Music for Everyone. \nWe are looking for an experienced\, creative and inspirational music educator/practitioner\, with a commitment to oversee\, support and enhance Music for Everyone’s existing artistic programme and the passion to lead a step-change in our youth outreach development and schools engagement work. \nThe successful candidate will be a music specialist with a proven professional track record of devising and running dynamic music projects for children of all ages\, abilities and experience and working at an advanced level with adult ensembles.
