SUMMARY:Karl Jenkins The Armed Man
DESCRIPTION:Tickets are available to buy on the door (cash or cheque only) on Saturday 12 October at the Albert Hall from 6.30pm \nNottingham Festival Chorus\, East of England Singers & Nottingham Concert Orchestra\nDutch Project Choir\nEmma Brown soloist\nAngela Kay\, Martin Van Der Brugge conductor \nKarl Jenkins: The Armed Man – A Mass for Peace\nAaron Copland: Fanfare for the Common Man\nLouis Bourgeois: All People that on Earth do Dwell\nOla Gjeilo: Across the Vast Eternal Sky\nHector Berlioz: Villanelle\nSir Edward Elgar: Where Corals Lie \nMOVING…… POWERFUL….. UPLIFTING….. \nThe Armed Man shot to the top of the classical music charts on its first release. Using a popular French secular melody as its basis\, the work sets a mass for choir and orchestra alongside texts from across Western poetry – from Malory to Kipling – and also includes Hiroshima poetry from Japan\, Hindu literature and the Muslim call to prayer. Relish the universal ideas presented through Jenkins’ ardent depiction of the destructiveness of war and the exhilarating urgency of his plea for peace. \nThe programme also includes our soloist\, Emma Brown\, performing ‘Where Corals Lie’ from Elgar’s Sea Pictures and the exhilarating ‘ Villanelle’ from Berlioz’s Les nuits d’ete. The programme opens with Copland’s arresting Fanfare for the Common Man and also features a moving arrangement of All people that on Earth do Dwell and Gjeilo’s haunting Across the vast Eternal Sky performed by the East of England Singers.
