SUMMARY:Big Youth Music Experience
DESCRIPTION:The Big Youth Music Experience is for all young instrumentalists\, with a weekend split into a wind band workshop day and a string orchestra workshop day\, followed by a joint concert the following Sunday at the Albert Hall\, Nottingham!  \nFor Wind Band – Saturday 6th November and Sunday 14th November 2021 \nCome and experience wind band playing at the Big Youth Music Experience for young woodwind\, brass and percussion players. Two windbands for players of all abilities (grade 2 – 8+) conducted by MfE’s Instrumental Animateur Josh Goodman and youth band director Claire Franklin. \nMusic booklets and rehearsal track links will be sent out approximately 5-6 weeks before the course\, to give you a chance to get to grips with the music. \nFor Strings – Sunday 7th November and Sunday 14th November 2021 \nCome and experience string playing for young violinists\, violists\, cellists and bassists. Three string orchestras for players of all abilities (beginners to grade 8+). The beginners orchestra is for players of grade 0 – 1 standard and will be lead by string conductor Helen Maddison. The Junior orchestra for players grade 2 – 4 standard\, conducted by MfE’s Instrumental Animateur Josh Goodman\, will enjoy a range of music that will introduce young instrumentalists to playing in an ensemble. SUMMARY:Brush Up Your Playing!
DESCRIPTION:Do you play an instrument and are approximately grade 2+? ‘Brush Up Your Playing’ is MfE’s latest online project for all instrumentalists (youth and adult!) looking to get playing again during lockdown while we are not able to hold rehearsals ‘in person’. \nInstrument warm up videos \nOver the first 4 weeks we will publish 4 ‘getting back into good working order’ videos\, one for each of the instrument sections (as listed below) on our YouTube channel with a new one published each Friday. There is something for everyone\, from Frosty the Snowman to The Little Road to Bethlehem by Michael Head. It’s our way of saying ‘thank you’ for supporting us during these Covid days. \nHow the concert will work:  \n\nThe concert will be in the form of a video streamed from our Youtube channel\, accessed via a video link.\nThere will be two showings: 3.30pm on Sunday 13th December and 7.30pm on Friday 18th December.\nThe concert video will not be available for public viewing\, you will need to book a virtual ticket link in advance.\n\nBooking is easy – just click the green ‘Book Tickets’ button at the bottom of this page and fill in your details on the form that will pop up. \nYou won’t receive a link to the video at the time of booking\, it will be sent to you 1hr before the showing. \nThere is no charge for the virtual ticket and all performers have given their time for free – but we are hoping to make the concert into a bit of a fundraiser to help MfE get through the coming months. DESCRIPTION:Come to Bandwise! 2020\, Music for Everyone’s 21st annual youth Windband event. Bandwise! gives you the chance to play a wide variety of music for wind and percussion – from classics to pop and jazz – and to take part in instrumental groups and workshops\, all in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. \nWhere and when is it? \nBandwise! will be held at the Bluecoat Academy\, Sutton Passeys Crescent\, Wollaton over the weekend of 11/12 January 2020 followed by an informal concert for parents and friends at the Albert Hall\, Nottingham\, on Sunday 19 January. An outline of the schedule for all groups is given below. \n\nWho will be there? \nLots of wind and percussion players from all parts of Nottinghamshire\, Derbyshire\, Lincolnshire and Leicestershire. All instruments are included: flutes\, oboes\, clarinets\, bassoons\, saxes\, horns\, trumpets\, cornets\, trombones\, euphoniums\, tubas and percussion. The age range is 8 – 21. The Artistic Director is Gill Henshaw who is an experienced wind teacher\, performer and conductor. She will be assisted in conducting and leading workshops by a team of specialists. There will also be a large support group of adult helpers and organisers. \n\nHow good do I have to be? \nWhether you have been playing for years or have only just reached Grade 1\, this is for YOU! Players will be divided into three groups: Bandwise 1 (Grades 1 – 2)\, Bandwise 2 (Grades 3 – 4)\, and Bandwise 3 (Grade 5 and above). \nNB. For more information please see here or get in touch with the office on admin@music-for-everyone.org\, 0115 958 9312. \nPriority booking for MfE Singing members closes 26 July. \n\nMartin Van Der Brugge – guest conductor \nMartin Van Der Brugge obtained his orchestra director’s diploma from the Rotterdam Conservatory under Arie van Beek in 1990 and his choir director’s diploma from the Royal Conservatory in The Hague in 1994\, partly under the tuition of acclaimed directors Jan Boogaarts and Ed Spanjaard. In addition he attended master classes in Biel\, Switzerland and the Weiner Meisterkurz given by Julius Kalmar. In later years\, Martin successfully organised the first master class for directors in Bulgaria. \nIn 1996 he gave concerts with the Vidin Philharmonic Orchestra as guest director. Martin was appointed regular guest director of the Mersin State Opera and Ballet of Turkey\, with various productions including Verdi’s Rigoletto performed under his direction. He has also performed as guest director of the Paliashvili Symphony Orchestra and Choir in Tbilisi\, Georgia. Martin has held his baton performing in numerous countries among which the Czech Republic\, Poland\, Austria\, Germany\, Spain and Slovenia. He has been long-term director of several oratorium choirs and a chamber music ensemble in the Netherlands. You can look out for them at some of the city’s most iconic points including the Robin Hood statue by the castle\, train station and outside the Theatre Royal & Concert Hall.  RHYO will also be part of the celebrations in Karlsruhe later in July as they go on a residential to Germany on July 19! \n\nSaturday 13 July: Pure Steel Band \n12 noon – 2.30pm: Sky Mirror \nPure Steel Band consists of anything from 2 to 25 players\, who perform in various settings around the UK and abroad. They rehearse in Mansfield once a week where they are supported by Inspire Youth Arts. Pure Steel have an extensive repertoire which means they can create the party atmosphere of a carnival or present a formal concert in a professional capacity. \nThe band was founded in 2002 and currently consists of players from both Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire that range in age from 11-21. \nOver the years the band have performed at numerous events both locally and internationally.  We are very proud to have played at Disneyland Paris as well as various towns surrounding Lake Garda\, Italy during several summer tours. \nPure Steel Band will be performing by the Sky Mirror and all are welcome to watch\, listen and then have a go yourselves! \n\nSaturday 13 July: Nottingham Youth Jazz Orchestra \n4pm – 5pm: Sky Mirror \nNottingham Youth Jazz Orchestra exists to enable young\, talented local musicians\, of school or secondary college age\, to develop their shared interest\, skill & enjoyment in playing & performing jazz. With an emphasis on live performance\, NYJO players develop lots of practical life skills too\, such as time management and presentation\, in addition to honing their craft of jazz musicianship through playing alongside other gifted players. \nNYJO is happy to discuss requests to hire a smaller Combo or Big Band for functions ­ with rates for private and charity performances. These groups will come together to present a ticketed evening concert at Nottingham’s Albert Hall\, culminating in a spectacular performance of ‘Light of the Seven’ from Game of Thrones. This will feature all performers plus the mighty Binns organ and Steinway grand piano! \nSunday workshops are especially designed for INSTRUMENTALISTS grades 2-4 and for families\, there’s a fun vocal time to be had at THE BIG FAMILY SING. All groups will entertain family and friends with a late afternoon relaxed performance in the Albert Hall. \nOn both days there are FESTIVAL FRINGE EVENTS. These are open not only to participants of the BYME groups but to any youngsters and their families and friends who would just like to ‘give it a go’. DESCRIPTION:Mark De-Lisser: Choral workshop *FREE* \nSaturday 23 March 2019\, 1pm – 4pm\nNottingham Cathedral Hall \nSpecifically for singers aged 12 – 18. \nYou’re invited to participate in an exclusive FREE workshop with inspirational vocal coach Mark De Lisser. \nAbout Mark De Lisser \nDo you remember hearing the stunning choir arrangement of Stand By Me at Harry and Meghan’s wedding last summer? Mark De Lisser arranged it\, and we are delighted to say he is coming to Nottingham to lead a special vocal workshop this March at the Cathedral. \n \nMark De Lisser is a vocal coach\, choral director\, arranger and author who has been working in the music industry for over 18 years. He sang as a boy in a church choir in Brixton\, South London and his love of spiritual music\, soul and gospel shine through his unique approach. \nHe’s worked as a voice coach on The Voice UK (ITV 2016)\, The Choir (BBC2 2016)\, Pitch Battle (BBC1 2017)\, Eurovision (BBC1 2017-19) and SING: Ultimate Acapella (SKY 2017). Mark is currently leading the vocal team on All Together Now. \nWe are very excited Mark is visiting Nottingham this March and we’re sure he’ll lead an inspirational session with plenty of ideas and techniques for singers to take away.
