SUMMARY:Brush Up Your Playing!
DESCRIPTION:Do you play an instrument and are approximately grade 2+? ‘Brush Up Your Playing’ is MfE’s latest online project for all instrumentalists (youth and adult!) looking to get playing again during lockdown while we are not able to hold rehearsals ‘in person’. \nInstrument warm up videos \nOver the first 4 weeks we will publish 4 ‘getting back into good working order’ videos\, one for each of the instrument sections (as listed below) on our YouTube channel with a new one published each Friday. Or have you taken up playing an instrument in adult life just for fun? Do you like playing orchestral music? Were you a member of the school recorder group? \nIf the answer is YES to any of these questions then come to Blow the Dust off your Instrument 2020 course. \nConducted by Angela Kay and Gill Henshaw this playing day will give you the chance to renew your old skills or put new-found ones into practice in a friendly\, relaxed and supportive environment. \nThe music has been chosen to give scope to players of all abilities and will include the swaggering ‘Polka‘ from Schwanda the Bagpiper by Weinberger\, Tchaikovsky’s well known ‘Waltz of the Flowers‘ from Swan Lake\, Eric Coates By the Sleepy Lagoon (better known as the theme tune to Desert Island Discs) and\, to bring back memories of childhood\, The Thunderbirds March! \nThere will also be items for wind band and string orchestra. For more information please see here or get in touch with the office on admin@music-for-everyone.org\, 0115 958 9312. \nPriority booking for MfE Singing members closes 26 July. \n\nMartin Van Der Brugge – guest conductor \nMartin Van Der Brugge obtained his orchestra director’s diploma from the Rotterdam Conservatory under Arie van Beek in 1990 and his choir director’s diploma from the Royal Conservatory in The Hague in 1994\, partly under the tuition of acclaimed directors Jan Boogaarts and Ed Spanjaard. In addition he attended master classes in Biel\, Switzerland and the Weiner Meisterkurz given by Julius Kalmar. In later years\, Martin successfully organised the first master class for directors in Bulgaria. \nIn 1996 he gave concerts with the Vidin Philharmonic Orchestra as guest director. Martin was appointed regular guest director of the Mersin State Opera and Ballet of Turkey\, with various productions including Verdi’s Rigoletto performed under his direction. He has also performed as guest director of the Paliashvili Symphony Orchestra and Choir in Tbilisi\, Georgia. Martin has held his baton performing in numerous countries among which the Czech Republic\, Poland\, Austria\, Germany\, Spain and Slovenia. He has been long-term director of several oratorium choirs and a chamber music ensemble in the Netherlands. SUMMARY:NFC - A Summer Celebration
DESCRIPTION:Music for Everyone invites you to join with the Nottingham Festival Chorus to sing in their Summer course and concert. \nThe music:\nAndrew Carter Benedicite. First performed in 1989 and inspired by the Benedicite carvings inspired by nature in the restored vault of York Minster\, Benedicite is a tuneful setting of verses from the Benedicite canticle in the Book of Common Prayer – ‘All the World\, Praise the Lord’. Scored for SATB chorus\, full orchestra and children’s chorus\, the work is a joy to sing. \nRutter Gloria. An exuberant and exciting setting of familiar words by the master of melody\, John Rutter\, this work is sure to set the hairs on the back of your neck tingling! \nThe Choir:\nThe Nottingham Festival Chorus is Music for Everyone’s flagship choir. Numbering over 200 voices\, singers come from all over the East Midlands and further afield. There are no auditions; all that’s required is a willlingness to work hard and a sense of fun to produce performances of a high standard. \nMusic for the course is sent out in advance along with a rehearsal CD to give singers the opportunity to become familiar with the music before the workshop day. SUMMARY:Blow the Dust off your Instrument!
DESCRIPTION:String Orchestra\, Swing Band\, Flute Ensemble\, Clarinet Choir\, Wind Band\, Double Reed Ensemble \nDid you learn to play an instrument when you were at school but haven’t got it out of the case for a long time? Or have you taken up playing an instrument in adult life just for fun? Do you like playing orchestral music? Were you once a member of the school recorder group? If the answer is YES to any of these questions then come to our Blow the Dust off your Instrument Ensembles Day. \nThis playing day will give you the chance to renew old skills or put new-found ones into practice in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. The principal conductors will be Angela Kay\, Chris McDouall\, Gill Henshaw\, Phil Smith and Kerry Lovell. The instrumental parts will be sent out in advance of the course\, to give you time to get to grips with the notes ahead of the day itself. \nString Orchestra\nThe music chosen gives scope to players of a wide range of abilities and experience. This year there will be the opportunity to perform a Handel Concerto Grosso and by contrast\, a foot-tapping Beach Boys Medley and all the best tunes from the film score of Shakespeare in Love. \nWind Band\, Flute Choir\, Swing Band\, Clarinet Choir\nAll wind players will play in the wind band during the morning then break into smaller ensembles for part of the afternoon. \nRecorder Ensemble\nA chance to remember back to childhood\, or perhaps more recently!
