SUMMARY:NCS Concert: Music of the Stars
DESCRIPTION:Nottingham Chamber Singers present: \nMusic of the Stars\nSaturday 29th November 2025\nSt John’s Church Carrington\, NG5 2DP \n7.30pm \nJoin the Nottingham Chamber Singers and be caught up in the music of the stars\, choral pieces by some of Britain’s finest composers\, evoking the mystery and vastness of the heavens. The works contemplate life and after-life through vibrant poetry set to sumptuous music. \nCecilia McDowall‘s three settings about the stars shimmer\, fizz and delight whilst Parry’s Songs of Farewell open with the much-loved ‘My Soul there is a country far beyond the Stars’\, the first of a set of beautifully contrasted and deeply touching pieces. To follow\, three poems from the First World War feature in the luminous and eloquent setting\, Songs of Remembrance\, by contemporary composer\, David Bednall. Our final piece\, Howells’ Requiem (1932) is now recognised as one of the greats of the choral repertoire. With its hauntingly beautiful harmonies\, it appeals strongly to both singer and listener alike and places Howells as one of the brightest stars in the English choral scene for years to come. \nLed by Music for Everyone’s Founder\, Angela Kay and Artistic Director\, Rachel Parkes\, the Nottingham Chamber Singers have an exciting concert schedule performing works across the full choral range\, from Claudio Monteverdi to Judith Weir. The choir’s refreshingly dynamic and committed performances continue to receive critical and public acclaim. \nTickets: Full £13\, Conc. £12\, Child/Student £5\nOnline booking is now closed. Tickets are still available on the door
