Bandwise! 2020

11th January 2020 - 12th January 2020

Come to Bandwise! 2020, Music for Everyone’s 21st annual youth Windband event. Bandwise! gives you the chance to play a wide variety of music for wind and percussion – from classics to pop and jazz – and to take part in instrumental groups and workshops, all in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

Where and when is it?

Bandwise! will be held at the Bluecoat Academy, Sutton Passeys Crescent, Wollaton over the weekend of 11/12 January 2020 followed by an informal concert for parents and friends at the Albert Hall, Nottingham, on Sunday 19 January. An outline of the schedule for all groups is given below.

Who will be there?

Lots of wind and percussion players from all parts of Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Lincolnshire and Leicestershire. All instruments are included: flutes, oboes, clarinets, bassoons, saxes, horns, trumpets, cornets, trombones, euphoniums, tubas and percussion. The age range is 8 – 21. The Artistic Director is Gill Henshaw who is an experienced wind teacher, performer and conductor. She will be assisted in conducting and leading workshops by a team of specialists. There will also be a large support group of adult helpers and organisers.

How good do I have to be?

Whether you have been playing for years or have only just reached Grade 1, this is for YOU! Players will be divided into three groups: Bandwise 1 (Grades 1 – 2), Bandwise 2 (Grades 3 – 4), and Bandwise 3 (Grade 5 and above).

NB. Percussion players should be able to read music and play at the appropriate grade.

What are we playing?

A wide-ranging program including:

Bandwise 1: Wallace and Gromit Theme, Battle Pavan

Bandwise 2: Flight of the Condor, Sneak Attack

Bandwise 3: Start Up The Band, El Camino Real

How do we learn the music?

By practicing the parts which will be sent to you approximately four weeks before the course, and listening to the rehearsal tracks which you can choose to download from a link or receive on a CD. These tracks take you through the music and the rehearsals at the course carry on from where they leave off. If you have “done your homework” you’ll have no problems!

How do I apply?

Numbers in each band are limited so please apply as soon as possible. The course fees are:

Bandwise 1: (Grades 1 – 2) £25.00

Bandwise 2: (Grades 3 – 4) £27.00

Bandwise 3: (Grade 5 and above) £27.00
