Nottingham Boys' Voices
Nottingham Boys' voices inspires boys to sing together – to plough their energy into singing and to enjoy performing.
Members are encouraged to express themselves through words and actions using different parts of their voice and each rehearsal demands their concentration as songs are often learnt by heart. There’s plenty of chance to let off steam and enjoy time together outside of the normal school environment too with rehearsals including time out to have fun and play games. Ultimately, everyone goes home with a smile on their face knowing they’ve worked hard and done a good job.
NBV is passionate about inspiring a life-long love of singing from the youngest age, and it’s clear the boys really get a lot from it - as one parent states ‘Boys voices has encouraged my sons interest in singing and all things musical. He now serenades us at home quite regularly and is even starting to take an interest in piano!’. One of our current members sums it up well: ‘I get to meet up with my friends and learn new songs – singing is great!’
Sessions are led by Helen Hayes who has a wealth of experience encouraging young people to sing in a variety of contexts, including our ever popular Vocals courses.
Rehearsals take place on Tuesdays in term-time and we often give performances in venues around Nottingham. This year the boys performed at the Albert Hall, Nottingham Trent University and outside by the Sky Mirror (near the Nottingham Playhouse) as part of Music for Everyone's annual Prom. The boys also performed in a concert with 200 boys from six West Bridgford schools in June and were on BBC Radio Nottingham to tell the tale - click here to listen
