East Midlands Youth String Orchestra is an auditioned ensemble for string players of Grade 5 standard and above. They rehearse on a Sunday afternoon from 2.30pm - 5.30pm usually at Nottingham Trent University, Clifton, approximately once every three weeks (sometimes there is an extra rehearsal on the evening before a concert day - usually a Friday evening).

The Orchestra was formed in March 2000 and consists of 20 - 30 members between the ages of 14 and 21. They give an average of four concerts per season and go on a residential rehearsal weekend in September of each year. Every other year they go away on a May weekend concert tour.

The sort of players we are looking for:

  • will be able to attend regularly and will be available to play in all or very nearly all of our concerts (approximately four a year)
  • have some sight-reading ability
  • are interested in performing a wide-ranging repertoire
  • get on well with other people
